Informational Website Design

Developing a successful Web site requires first thinking about a few key issues.  First, we must determine the purpose of the site.  Is it a public relations tool, an information clearing house, or a direct channel for selling products?  The first 2 areas are what we will be dealing with here.

If you have previously done printed brochures, newsletters or other marketing devices, we can glean a great deal from them for content and page designs.

We will separate your content as much as possible so that each area can be tied to the home page but also stands on its own.  I would encourage you to use as many photos or other graphics as possible to keep pages interesting to your viewers.  Just some brief ideas are below,

  • Home Page or Introduction – giving a brief overview of your purpose and vision for the site

  • Personal Biography – detailing your life and experiences (this should include a picture)

  • Site pages – here, you can illustrate what is available  broken down by as many or few pages as appropriate.

  • Affiliations – It is always good to let the public know your affiliations – this has a benefit of making your business or organization credible.
  • Calendar – If applicable, this can show coming events, etc..

  • Prices or fees – If you are a service business, this is helpful to potential customers before they contact you – make sure this  gets updated if your change your prices or fees.

  • Other links – there may be other websites that you would like people to have access to, either now or in the future – they can be  related to your business or organization, informational, educational, or fun

  • If you are a non profit, there could be an area that allows people to donate to you  - a mailing address or such. Donations could be in the form of cash or items that could be sold, items needed or desired, etc.

Again, all of these elements do not have to be on the website, these are just suggestions for you to consider.  There may be other things that would be helpful to the website.
